About Jocelyn Schick
CEO/Founder - Bizzy Body
Jocelyn is the CEO and Founder of Bizzy Body Event Planners, a company that provides organizational planning, administrative services, and event management for conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings, rallies, tournaments, concerts, gala’s, reunions, Civic events and any other happening they may have in mind. Bizzy Body launched January 1, 2008 and is a member of the Fort St .John & District Chamber of Commerce.
Based today in Fort St. John, BC, Jocelyn was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is the youngest of 16 children. She has strong family values and appreciates all the love and advice given by her older siblings over the years. While growing up, Jocelyn discovered a passion for getting involved in family events, as well as those in her community.
At the age of 16, Jocelyn joined the Board of Directors for Bord-Aire Community Club, becoming the winter carnival and broomball Chair, and organizer of summer baseball tournaments. Her tenure lasted four years, and afterwards she stayed involved with the club as bingo assistant – even given the privilege of calling out “bingo” when she was lucky!
Jocelyn joined the team at Uptown Magazine, Winnipeg’s urban weekly newspaper, as Administrative Assistant in 1995. It was here she had the opportunity to work with a successful sales team Penny Olson, who began to offer professional guidance and direction in her life. A year later she was promoted to Promotions Coordinator and assisted with inside sales calls and selling feature advertising. During her time at Uptown, Jocelyn organized more than 300 promotions, from movie premiers to rock concert contests, to ballet ticket give-a-ways, and donations to Winnipeg Harvest.
In 1998, in partnership with three of her sisters, Jocelyn created and launched a weekly entertainment newspaper in Winnipeg. As General Manager for Connect! Your Entertainment Source, Jocelyn oversaw publishing and promotions for the next year. This adventure brought with it many rewards and challenges, and was chalked up as the learning experience of a lifetime. Through Connect! she was able to expand her growing network of professional contacts, while discovering herself to be a risk-taker, as well as a great schmoozer!
Jocelyn had the opportunity to be employed as Assistant Production Coordinator for three feature films shot in Winnipeg: Desire, a German-Canadian co-production; The Law of Enclosures, by acclaimed Canadian Director John Greyson; and Children of My Heart, a made-for-television movie about the life of Gabrielle Roy, one of Canada’s most prolific literary authors. In this fast-paced, furious, and fun environment, Jocelyn rose to the challenge of working 16-hour days, 6-days a week.
In 1999, she joined the team at BTI Canada, one of Canada’s largest travel agency’s, as Administrative Assistant. A short time later she became Executive Assistant to the General Manager, learning many things about the travel industry, including worldwide airport codes, and the fact that “fam” trips are a lot of fun!
Jocelyn returned to the world of entertainment with Frantic Films, where she worked for three years as Office and Human Resource Manager. She played an important role in the company’s strategic growth by assisting management with developing and establishing administrative infrastructures and processes. She had the opportunity to work directly with CEO Jamie Brown, who taught her many lessons in business, and who became an invaluable professional mentor in her life. Working with the Frantic team involved learning immigration procedures with hiring international employees. In 2003 she played an integral role in planning the grand opening of Frantic’s Los Angeles office as part of Canada Day celebrations in Los Angeles, and worked with the Manitoba Premier’s office to help organize a special event held at the home of the Canadian Consul-General.
During a road-trip to Fort St. John in January of 2004, Jocelyn made the spontaneous decision to permanently relocate there. She was in town only three short weeks when she met the love of her life. From that moment on, she knew her future would be in BC, and Winnipeg would be a place to visit.
With her diverse and skilled background, it didn’t take Jocelyn long to secure a job. She currently holds the position of Executive Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer responsible for the operational developments of Northeast BC hospitals and health care facilities within the Northern Health Authority. Today, Jocelyn chairs and participates in a number of local and regional committees fostering the growth of the healthcare industry within her new community.
Jocelyn was a key committee member for the BC Health and Education EA Conference held in Kelowna in 2006. While attending the conference, and inspired by the motivations speakers who presented, she had an epiphany – she was meant to plan and facilitate. She made a decision that one day soon, her career path would make one more drastic change, in pursuing her true professional passion.
One year later, the turning point for Jocelyn came. At three months pregnant, she accepted the role of Director of Opening Ceremonies and Special Events for the Northern BC Winter Games. Joining the team two months out from opening ceremonies, she jumped in with both feet (and protruding belly!) and helped make the event a huge success. She realized, by seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and the pride in their eyes, that she had finally discovered her true calling. This is what she truly loved to do!
In 2007, Jocelyn accepted the role of Conference Coordinator for Walk In Balance Two 2007, a two-and-a-half day conference intended to provide guidance to attendees to make positive choices in their lives. With only three months to fundraise, find keynote speakers, confirm the facilities, create a spa, secure the equipment, order the food, and organize the musical extravaganza and red carpet affair, it was a joyride of adrenaline that she will never forget. The Northeast Aboriginal Business & Wellness Centre and more personally, Paulette Flamond, guided Jocelyn to make this conference the success that it became.
Jocelyn’s was the Powwow Coordinator for the 2008 “Spirit of the Peace” Pow Wow Society, which was held in Taylor, BC,. She worked with the Fort St. John Friendship Centre and organized their “Empowering Yourself to be part of a Powerful Team” day as well as their Grand Re-Opening Celebrations and the Eve of Aboriginal Day Festivities & Luncheon.
She just completed the position of Conference Coordinator for the wellness conference, Walk In Balance Three, held May 26-27, 2009. Jocelyn also worked with Agenda Sport for the Homecoming Celebrations of the Morrison Brothers and a kick off to the 2010 Winter Olympics in her community.
The future looks great for Jocelyn as she is working the Elections BC to coordanate the election process in the Peace River North Region. She will also work with the North Peace Cutlural Centre on many events in the coing months.
Over the years Jocelyn has played integral roles in planning the Simard / Cote Family Reunion, staff appreciation events, wedding socials, showers, theme parties and social events. Event planning has always been a passion and she is driven with excitement, enthusiasm and motivation. Planning and organizational abilities come natural to her and over the years she has learned that her “common sense” is really “uncommon”.
In her free time, Jocelyn likes to read, play pool, poker, watch reality television, Seinfeld, Three’s Company and Happy Days reruns. She enjoys the outdoors, nature walks, swinging, fishing, bocci ball and golf. She loves candy, is learning to juggle, writes poetry, collects rocks and sand from all over the world, and has been in a music video.
Jocelyn loves life and is very grateful and appreciative of all she has. She in honorable, respectable and very well respected by her peers and associates. She has the ability to make it happen, honestly, credibly, ethically and by the deadline!
Today, Jocelyn’s most treasured team is her loving fiancé Dwayne, and daughter Jaylee – the most precious little peanut, the cherry in her pie, and the tear of joy that still sheds from her eye. With love, experience and encouragement, she will reach her dreams and plan yours!
